ArtsConnect’s ArtsCalendar is a work in progress. Presently, we are working with a small group of arts organizations from across the Tri-Cities to develop the ArtsCalendar before we open up submissions from all arts organizations and we are not accepting direct submissions at this time. If your organization is interested in joining the ArtsCalendar in the future, please email your name, address, and a brief description of your organization to: [email protected]

This resource has been made possible through the financial support of ArtsConnect’s members. If you would like to support the further development, please consider becoming a member here: Membership

EBONY ROOTS
Sound the Alarm

ABOUT THE SHOW
Ebony Roots is a concert celebration of African Descent/Black music – from 300 year old spirituals to Motown, and everything in between. It features a journey through Black music representing the evolving emancipation of the African-Descent community from the North American perspective. This powerful and intimate musical experience features prison/work songs, passionate spirituals, iconic songs from the stage, to the emergence of Black Soul, R&B, Blues, and Motown.

This project was produced by Brandon Thornhill with support from Vancouver’s own award-winning company, Sound the Alarm: Music/Theatre (www.soundthealarm.ca) who is known for touring Music of the Night: The Concert Tour and A Whole New World.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Vocalist Brandon Thornhill serves as this concert’s lead curator, designer and producer. He initiated this project with the desire to advocate for his African Descent community, creating opportunities to highlight and celebrate Black music and artists in Canada and America. As producer, supported in mentorship and administration by Sound the Alarm: Music/Theatre, Brandon curated the repertoire as well as inviting the singers and artists involved. With a Masters Degree in Voice, and a vibrant career as a voice artist, and R&B band vocalist, Brandon is a talented storyteller and helps blend the music and its historical significance into a wonderful program.
