SUMMARY:Writers Respond: Cella Anne Author Talk and Book Signing
DESCRIPTION:404 Years An Auto/Biography is not just a family and personal history. As a non-Indigenous person\, Cella Anne uses her own voice and the women’s voices of the past to investigate issues of social justice. \nWhile her ancestor’s lives are a portrait of immigration and search for a better life as “eminent domain” led American expansion\, Cella Anne parallels her own history of movement to Canada\, awareness of social injustice\, the distraction of an indulgent lifestyle\, and her return to a career that took social justice issues head on – most recently at the University of the Fraser Valley. \nIn this session\, the author will talk about the ways in which she included elements that supported her own goals in working towards Canada and British Columbia’s reconciliation goals. Q & A to follow. \nThis is the first event in the Writers Respond monthly series to be held at Western Sky Books starting in the Fall of 2025. \nCella Anne lives in Golden\, at the crossroads of Ktunaxa Nation and Secwepemc Territory in British Columbia\, at the doorstep of five Canadian national parks. Cella has worked as a professor\, educator\, and researcher at universities such as the University of the Fraser Valley\, where she also worked to advance Indigenization in post-secondary education and was awarded Professor Emeritus in 2024. While she has previously published academic articles and book chapters\, 404 Years is her first book. In addition to writing\, Cella enjoys printmaking\, cross-country skiing\, and road travel\, and she is also a member of the Bahá’í Faith. Book club\, interactive maps\, and other additional resources available through the author’s website 404years-thebook.com.
