SUMMARY:PoCo Creative Drop In Sliding Scale - Painting the Seasons!
DESCRIPTION:Come learn painting with us! Just bring your curiosity and paint shirt! \nWhen painting landscapes\, seasons each have their own palette. Learn how to mix unique palette’s to create the mood and season that you have planned for your landscape. In this class you will learn the difference between high key\, low key\, modern\, and neutral colours in the process of creating your own 4 quadrant landscape. \nIn Spring colours are light and optimistic. This can be achieved by using high key colours to suggest bright light\, fresh air\, and new leaves. They are luminous\, transparent and delicate. \nSummer is full of colour\, so lively and engaging colours are needed for your florals and landscapes. A Modern palette of deeper colours supports a vibrant and exciting painting. \nAutumn is earthy with a full spectrum of darker low key colours in the leaves and trees. The sun’s angle is lower so there are a lot of shadows that change the landscape. \nFor winter there is a subdued calm and softness that comes with snow. Using cool and warm neutral complementary colours presents a believable winter scene. \nSliding Scale PoCo Creative Drop In \nWe are proposing a sliding scale for payments for our upcoming painting classes. If most people can pay $20/lesson\, we will break even! \nWe understand everyone’s financial situation is different. To ensure accessibility for all\, we’re offering tickets on a sliding scale. The suggested minimum price is $20 – this price covers your materials and instructor fees. There will also be a $10\, $25 and $35 options. You’re welcome to pay more if you’re able to. Your choice of price is completely voluntary and does not impact your access to the event. If you are unable to afford the minimum $10 ticket\, please email pocoarts@gmail.com and we will secure you a seat\, no questions asked. Please consider how much you can contribute to help others attend who might otherwise be unable to\, or how it supports the PoCo Arts Council in continuing these events (there is a donation option upon checkout). \nSpaces are limited—reserve your spot today! \nThe PoCo Arts Council\, in collaboration the City of PoCo is putting on these unique classes\, come try something new! \nFor materials\, only participants paintings can go home\, supplies to be reused in future classes. \nTo be notified on subsequent classes\, subscribe to the PoCo Arts Newsletter at https://pocoarts.wordpress.com/newsletter-sign-up/

SUMMARY:MULTITUDES CURATOR'S TOUR
DESCRIPTION:MULTITUDES CURATOR’S TOUR\nFriday\, July 11 | 12:30pm\nJoin interim curator Adrienne Fast for a drop-in lunchtime tour of Multitudes. \nABOUT THE EXHIBITION\nHow do stories transform the present and project the future? How do we relate to ourselves and the world around us? Looking to the stars and tracing the constellations offers a reminder of the expansiveness of time and the stories that situate us within the vastness of the universe. Multitudes is a group exhibition featuring work from Sonny Assu\, Chun Hua Catherine Dong\, Deborah Edmeades\, Odera Igbokwe\, Cheyenne Rain LeGrande ᑭᒥᐊᐧᐣ and Tatjana Mirkov-Popovicki. \nTurning to the fantastical\, the artists explore layers of identity as they traverse the present\, untangle oppressive histories and imagine the future (and the self) as sites of renewal. Working across sculpture\, painting\, textiles\, new media and video\, the artists draw inspiration from fantasy\, the influence of technology and stories of the cosmos that shape our experiences of the present.

The phrase itself becomes the central visual element of the mural\, with “Moody” and “by Nature” each representing a contrasting yet harmonious aspect of the community. \n‍ \nHappening throughout the festival – check back for progress and watch the artists while they work. Keep your eyes open for the community call where you can make your mark on the wall!

SUMMARY:Art Out Side: Remembering Our Roots
DESCRIPTION:ARTIST: Pierre Leichner \n“Although we live in a period of great wealth\, there continues to exist poverty and hunger; although we are increasingly aware of our environment\, we continue to damage it incredibly; and although we have made great strides in understanding human diseases\, we struggle to provide person centered care and promote health. There is now evidence that participation in the arts promotes health and well being in individuals and their community. \nI describe myself as an interdisciplinary research artist. I am a full-time artist 2011. \nI work on two intertwined tracts: a socially/politically engaged one and one of personal inquiry. I believe art has lost its place to science\, business\, and entertainment as a way of knowing. Most of my research focuses on our environment\, and mental health. I use various mediums as needed to explore an issue. \nI am a member of Connection Salon\, on the board of the Community Arts Council of Vancouver. I am the founding artistic director of the Vancouver Outsider Arts Festival now in its 8th year. \nI work on two intertwined tracts: a socially/politically engaged one and one of personal inquiry. SUMMARY:Art Out Side: Eroded Origins: Speak For Me!
DESCRIPTION:Eroded Origins: *Speak for Me! If the Forest Could Speak… What Would It Say? Overview: *Speak for Me!* is an interactive climate art workshop that invites the public into a creative dialogue on environmental stewardship. Having traveled across several BC communities\, this evolving installation uses art to spark reflection and inspire action on the climate crisis. Objective: Participants are encouraged to explore their relationship with the natural world and express their thoughts through art. Centered around the prompts *“If the forest could speak\, what would it say?”* and *“What is your age?”*\, the workshop gathers community voices to be embedded into a digital artwork symbolizing the fragile balance between humanity and nature. \n• Participants reflect on the prompts and share their thoughts • Age is collected to explore generational perspectives Symbolic Representation:• Ages are represented as tree rings\, linking voices to the lifespans of forests (work-in-progress) \nResponses will be integrated into a growing digital artwork series that fosters empathy\, connection\, and climate awareness through shared artistic expression. Future Development: From 2026 onward\, the series will expand to explore the elements of water\, fire\, and air. Why It Matters: As wildfires increasingly destroy homes\, habitats\, and communities across Canada and beyond\, *Speak for Me!* offers a creative platform to engage the public in urgent environmental conversations. \nA fourth-generation Chinese-Canadian\, Garrett Andrew Chong’s artistic journey began with honours from Emily Carr – mid 80’s. \nHis evolution from visual communications to digital art has consistently explored themes of light\, from early b/w infrared film to capturing unseen light with HDR technology. His current works reflect a spiritual resonance with natural elements\, shaping an illuminating narrative through the spectrum of climate art.

SUMMARY:Art Out Side: Shoreline Paintings
DESCRIPTION:TIME \n2:00PM – 7:00PM (Shannon Thiesen\, Alex Allen) \n4:00PM – 7:00PM (Bev Bakka) \n  \nDraw Me\nIn the spirit of forest fun\, stop by and Bev will sketch you. In less than five minutes she will create a little line drawing that may capture your essence. Then you can dab a bit of water colour paint on the drawing\, bringing it to life. \n‍ \nAbout the Artist: \nYou may find yourself captured in a comic-like line drawing if you frequent local parks and businesses Port Moody. Using a fountain pen\, Bev sketches in Port Moody and area cafes\, hiking trails\, breweries\, shops and community events. She uses her line drawing technique to notice detail\, to remember people and their uniqueness. She has found that by drawing people\, she is more likely to notice what makes them tick. Adding some rosy cheeks\, some lovely yellow sunshine\, or some West Coast nature\, complete the quick little caricature-like sketch. Bev combines her two obsessions; sketching and music\, by drawing the delightful musicians at Rocky Point Spirits and Brave Brewery Open Mic nights. There is always a surprise or two to capture there! She knows that drawing people slows her down\, making her notice how special each person is. Along with providing the novelty she craves\, the practise aids in respecting everyone. It’s tough to judge after spending a few minutes of sketching what you see. The joy shines through. – Bev Bakka. \nFollow Bev on Instagram: @bevbakkaart \n  \nLive Portrait Drawings\nLive portrait drawings with coloured pencil or charcoal.
