SUMMARY:Family Days
DESCRIPTION:FAMILY DAYS\nat the Art Gallery at Evergreen \nJoin us for a creative family workshop inspired by the vibrant and expressive drawings of Sharni Pootoogook. Families will take part in a guided gallery tour to explore Pootoogook’s storytelling through line\, color\, and everyday life\, followed by a hands-on art activity in the studio. \nTogether\, families will experiment with drawing and mixed media techniques to create artworks that reflect their own stories and experiences. Led by an experienced art instructor\, this workshop encourages observation\, imagination\, and collaboration in a fun\, welcoming space\, perfect for families of all ages and skill levels. \nAll ages welcome! \n\n\n\n12PM + 2PM |  Pre-Registration Required \n\nABOUT THE CURRENT GALLERY EXHIBITION \n\n\n\n\n\nThe life and work of Sharni Pootoogook (1922–2003)\, though still largely underexplored\, draws clear and fundamental connections between first-generation artists in Kinngait\, Nunavut\, and the current trends in Inuit graphic art. Her bold designs helped to shape and inform the course of Inuit printmaking during a period of great turmoil that threatened Inuit land\, culture and traditional languages. Drawn from the Kelowna Art Gallery’s permanent collection and supplemented by works on loan from Simon Fraser University\, Burnaby\, this exhibition features works on paper that demonstrate Pootoogook’s trademark style of heavy linework and well-balanced design. Blurring the boundaries between human and animal\, the spiritual and the physical\, Pootoogook’s work creates space for wonder and uncertainty.

SUMMARY:Art Focus: February Art Demo Featuring Nishant Jain “ The Sneaky Artist!”
DESCRIPTION:** All Demos are free and open to the public ** \nNishant Jain is a writer and sneaky-artist\, making secret drawings of his world everywhere he goes. After leaving a PhD program in Neuroscience to become a novelist\, and getting stuck halfway through his debut novel\, he started drawing as a way to get over his writer’s block. Thus began an unexpected journey as an artist. Nishant’s art revolves around a curiosity for urban life\, and how cities allow strangers to coexist in harmony. His book\, Make (Sneaky) Art\, offers ideas and techniques to build a sketchbook habit based upon mindfulness and observation of one’s environment. Nishant lives in Port Moody\, with his wife and a baby boy whom he draws everyday. \nA drawing habit is about more than the skill of drawing. It can be a wholesome way to engage more deeply with your environment and be more mindful in the spaces we inhabit. This session will pack ideas and simple techniques from Nishant Jain’s book\, Make (Sneaky) Art\, to help you build a sustainable and fulfilling drawing habit. \nhttp://www.sneakyartist.com
