SUMMARY:Tri-City Wordsmiths' Workshop: Resilient Writers: Dealing with Rejection\, Negativity\, and (Inner) Critics by Christina Myers
DESCRIPTION:Tri-City Wordsmiths’ first workshop of 2026 is this weekend. Resilient Writers: Dealing with Rejection\, Negativity\, and (Inner) Critics by Christina Myers Sat.\, Feb. 7th\, 2026 1:30 – 4PM. \nEven the most successful writers face rejection\, bad reviews\, and harsh critics – including the loudest critic of all: our own internal voice. She is the author of two books (Halfway Home: Thoughts from Midlife and The List of Last Chances) and the editor of two non-fiction anthologies. She has been longlisted for the Leacock Medal\, twice shortlisted for the Fred Kerner book prize\, won the 2023 Canadian Book Club Award in the fiction category\, and is currently a finalist in two categories for the 2025 Canadian Book Club Awards. She is a member of Da’naxda’xw First Nation\, grew up all over Canada\, and lives in Surrey\, BC\, with her family. She is represented by Meg Wheeler at Westwood Creative Artists; find her online at [https://linktr.ee/christinamyers] \nOur workshops are available to the public for FREE\nOn ZOOM or IN-PERSON: \nProgram Room\, Terry Fox Library\, 2150 Wilson Ave.\, Port Coquitlam\nTo attend\, please e-mail tri.city.worksmiths@gmail.com and say if it’s in person or on Zoom.

SUMMARY:PMFS Presents the Iranian Film "Hit the Road"
DESCRIPTION:Hit the Road follows a chaotic\, tender family on a road trip across Iran through a rugged landscape\, fussing over the sick dog and getting on each others’ nerves. Only the mysterious older brother is quiet. A beautifully acted drama with steadily cumulative force\, Hit the Road uses one family’s journey to make trenchant observations about society as a whole. What really makes Hit the Road fly\, however\, is the fizzy interplay between the superb core actors. No offence is meant by noting parallels with a similarly nomadic family in Little Miss Sunshine. To be a passenger alongside these nervous voyagers\, as they clash\, tease and cherish each other on the way to this strange and terrible fork in their lives\, is to be a very fortunate moviegoer indeed. \nRoad Trip / Comedy / Drama\nRuntime 1 h 33 m\nIran\n2021\nPG-13 \nTrailer for Hit the Road \n\n\n\n\n\n\n$ 5.00 plus $ 5 annual membership. SUMMARY:Family Days
DESCRIPTION:FAMILY DAYS\nat the Art Gallery at Evergreen \nJoin us for a creative family workshop inspired by the vibrant and expressive drawings of Sharni Pootoogook. Families will take part in a guided gallery tour to explore Pootoogook’s storytelling through line\, color\, and everyday life\, followed by a hands-on art activity in the studio. \nTogether\, families will experiment with drawing and mixed media techniques to create artworks that reflect their own stories and experiences. Led by an experienced art instructor\, this workshop encourages observation\, imagination\, and collaboration in a fun\, welcoming space\, perfect for families of all ages and skill levels. \nAll ages welcome! \n\n\n\n12PM + 2PM |  Pre-Registration Required \n\nABOUT THE CURRENT GALLERY EXHIBITION \n\n\n\n\n\nThe life and work of Sharni Pootoogook (1922–2003)\, though still largely underexplored\, draws clear and fundamental connections between first-generation artists in Kinngait\, Nunavut\, and the current trends in Inuit graphic art. Her bold designs helped to shape and inform the course of Inuit printmaking during a period of great turmoil that threatened Inuit land\, culture and traditional languages. Drawn from the Kelowna Art Gallery’s permanent collection and supplemented by works on loan from Simon Fraser University\, Burnaby\, this exhibition features works on paper that demonstrate Pootoogook’s trademark style of heavy linework and well-balanced design. Blurring the boundaries between human and animal\, the spiritual and the physical\, Pootoogook’s work creates space for wonder and uncertainty.
