SUMMARY:Open Air Performance Series: Jada Zhou
DESCRIPTION:Jada Zhou is a young guzheng musician who has been studying the instrument for five years. She has achieved Level 7 certification in the professional performance assessment of the Central Conservatory of Music in China\, demonstrating her strong technical foundation and dedication to traditional Chinese music. \n Jada’s playing combines the elegant\, expressive qualities of the guzheng with a sincere passion for sharing Chinese culture with wider audiences. She has performed at a variety of community and cultural events\, including the Asian Harmony Art & Cultural Event\, Chinese New Year Celebration Gala\, and Evergreen Cultural Centre’s Open Air Performance Series in summer 2025\, where she performed as part of Guzheng Sisters with her sister. \n\n In addition to public cultural events\, Jada has also shared her music through performances at senior homes and charity events hosted by non-profit organizations. These experiences have helped her grow not only as a musician\, but also as a young performer who values connection\, community\, and cultural exchange. \n\n Through her solo performance\, Jada hopes to bring the beautiful sound of the guzheng to the Open Air Performance Series once again and share the charm of traditional Chinese music with the local community.

DESCRIPTION:Thistle Hart is a singer/songwriter raised in BC’s Lower Mainland. Currently based out of Vancouver\, he uses his banjo and voice to reach people with his intimate lyrical writing. His music draws inspiration from Hozier\, The Amazing Devil\, and Pete Seeger\, with an alt-folk feel to much of his work. Thistle writes from his life and experiences as someone who grew up in the unique biome that is the Lower Mainland\, and as a trans person. With a deep focus on lyrical storytelling\, Thistle’s songs capture the raw beauty of the natural world\, while reflecting a personal journey of transformation.

By taking this movement out of the theatre\, this activation shares the raw\, collective energy of the cypher directly with the audience. DESCRIPTION:Hello! We’re SweetSour Strips\, a musical duo composed of two best friends\, Kaela Lopez and Sharon Hao. Starting from casual jams through our early guitar journeys\, we’ve since performed at open mics\, events within our community\, busking around the city\, and more. Previously derived from the same band\, we play a variety of different genres ranging from indie to rock\, sharing similar “tastes” in music. Our name reflects the contrasts of our relationship\, where our differences of preference create balance\, whether it be sweet or sour. DESCRIPTION:“The Nest” – A Look at the Secret Life of Birds\nTIME: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM \nLOCATION: Pioneer Memorial Park (275 Knowle St\, Port Moody) \nARTIST: Melissa Burgher \nThe Nest reveals the hidden importance of protected park areas by highlighting ground-nesting birds such as ducks\, geese\, killdeer\, and plovers. Artist Melissa Burgher will lead participants in creating a 4-5′ foot woven bird’s nest using sustainably harvested native/invasive plants\, including yellow flag iris\, ivy\, and willow. Through demonstrations of ethical harvesting and traditional/non-traditional weaving techniques\, participants will contribute to a collaborative land-based artwork while learning about ecological stewardship. The project transforms public space into an interactive outdoor classroom\, fostering environmental awareness\, creativity\, and community connection through collective making. \n“I’m excited to bring people together at the Art Outside Festival to create something that celebrates both art and ecology. By weaving a giant bird’s nest from natural\, sustainably harvested materials\, we can spark curiosity about the hidden lives of ground-nesting birds and inspire a deeper appreciation for the landscapes we share. I hope this project encourages people to see our parks with fresh eyes and recognize the importance of protecting the places wildlife calls home.” \n‍ \nThe Threads Between Us – A Public Weaving Project\nTIME: 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM \nLOCATION: Pioneer Memorial Park (275 Knowle St\, Port Moody) \nARTIST: Elizabeth Raposo \nThis project is an experiential space that encourages festival goers of all ages to participate in the collective creation of a tangible representation of our effect on the community around us. An A-frame tent will be warped with thread and fabric yarn will be provided for participating in the creation of the tapestry covering the tent frame. This installation affords a structure to experience as well as to make and encourages festival goers of all ages\, abilities\, and interests to participate in the exhibit. The Threads Between Us is a reminder of the deeply entwined connection we all share and our effect on our collective creations\, whether we simply exist\, observe\, and/or create in the space. Participation\, experimentation\, and questions are encouraged! \n“I am so excited to see this project come to life! Through non-verbal communication and cooperative play\, these curious and silly scouts share their research in a wandering performance that all ages can enjoy. The visuals themselves come from the community: local participants’ hand-drawn artwork\, created in workshops leading up to the festival\, is digitized and animated for the mapping. She has fronted everything from blues to folk bands\, and she brings these musical influences together to create “earthy magic” inspired by natural West Coast elements\, honesty and dreams. Her EP Hunting Season was released in 2023; and her full-length album Hidden Mountains is now available as of April 2026.

Blurring fiction and encounter\, the work imagines the woods as a site of queer divinity\, sensuality\, and transformation—where desire shimmers briefly into view\, then slips back into the night. \n“I’m excited to be bringing this site-specific project to Port Moody\, situated at the beautiful Mossom Creek. It is something seductive\, resonant\, and immersive—both personal and fantastical. My project engages desire\, danger\, and mythology all together\, and I look forward to sharing it with you all.”

SUMMARY:Open Air Performance Series: Archie Anos & Danny Cruz
DESCRIPTION:D&A is an acoustic duo from Surrey. We met at a church choir where Danny played the guitar\, while was Archie was a soloist. We play cover songs in the following genres: folk\, acoustic\, and OPM (Original Pinoy Music) with an emphasis on harmonies. We have been playing together for over a decade\, and have been participating in charity concerts and community events. We also volunteer to perform at care homes. We are very active in the Filipino community where we professionally perform in private parties and restaurants. We are eager to perform for a more diverse audience\, and share our culture and love for music.

An A-frame tent will be warped with thread and fabric yarn will be provided for participating in the creation of the tapestry covering the tent frame. This installation affords a structure to experience as well as to make and encourages festival goers of all ages\, abilities\, and interests to participate in the exhibit. The Threads Between Us is a reminder of the deeply entwined connection we all share and our effect on our collective creations\, whether we simply exist\, observe\, and/or create in the space. I’m excited to bring Suckers into a public space\, transforming an everyday environment into a place of surprise\, play\, and live performance.” \n‍ \nLive Pop-Up Portraits & Cityscape Sketching\nTIME: 11:30 AM – 4:00 PM \nLOCATION: Rocky Point Park (2800 Murray St\, Port Moody) \nARTIST: Chunbo Jiang (Richmond Plein Air Studio) \nJoin artist Horae (Chunbo Jiang) at Rocky Point Park for a captivating live art experience! Watch the vibrant energy of the park and its beautiful cityscapes come to life on paper through swift\, expressive strokes. Visitors are invited to step into the frame as Horae captures live community portraits in real-time\, blending watercolor\, pastels\, and pencils. Come witness the magic of spontaneous creation and take home a unique piece of live-captured local spirit. \n“Art Out Side provides an opportunity for artists and audiences to meet in new ways. I’m excited to bring Suckers into a public space where people can not only watch a performance\, but become part of the creative experience themselves.” \n‍ \nPurifier\nTIME: 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM \nLOCATION: Rocky Point Park (2800 Murray St\, Port Moody) \nARTIST: Billy Marchenski \nPurifier is based on the Turkey vulture\, a raptor found here in southern BC\, and Vancouver Island. It is about how scavengers live alongside humans. The vulture purifies the land by eating decaying flesh\, and disease. Without them\, we would be drowning in corpses. The piece is a creative way to bring attention to the several wars happening around the globe at this time. It is beautiful and poetic and very Canadian in that it celebrates the healing power of nature in the face of human chaos. Pray to the Turkey vulture. That it might save us from our own demise. \n“Art Out Side is an exciting opportunity to transform everyday space and connect with the community!” \n‍ \nMatt Peterson-Muirhead\nTIME: 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM \nLOCATION: Newport Village (Newport Dr\, Port Moody) \nARTIST: Matt Peterson-Muirhead \nCarpenter by day\, showman by night and storyteller by nature. Matt Peterson-Muirhead is a hardworking man that finds great release in the expression of music and song writing. From beautiful Port Coquitlam BC\, Canada\, Matt’s music is influenced by the environment around him and the characters he encounters everyday. Inspired by great blues\, country\, rock and bluegrass players\, his music is genre defying and speaks to many different walks of people. \n“I am excited to be a part of Art Outside this year as a returning artist because I get to share the joy music brings me with the wonderful people of the Tri-cities.
