Strange Advance
Born from a love of David Bowie, Strange Advance began releasing music in 1982. Signed to Capitol Records USA, they released three Gold Records, earned Juno nominations for both Most Promising Group and Best Group, and gained fans like Annie Lennox and Neil Peart.
After Bowieโs passing, the band made a decision โ if they were ever going to play live again, it was now or never. They released a new album,ย Strange Advance 4, and reintroduced themselves to Canada, fulfilling long-held dreams of devoted fans and captivating a new generation of โ80s music lovers.
Joined by visual artist Tim Hill (Skinny Puppy), Strange Advance delivers the soundtrack to that magical era that was the 1980s.
Spoons
Formed in 1980, an intrepid young band from Burlington, Ontario would soon make โSpoonsโ a different kind of household word. Theyย would help define the sound of pop and New Wave in the 80โs with hits like Nova Heart, Romantic Traffic, Old Emotions, and Tell No Lies.
Their albumย Arias & Symphoniesย would go on to be named one of the โ20 Most Influential Albums of the 80sโ by The Chart Magazine and their song โNova Heartโ would be included in Bob Mersereauโs bookย The Top 100 Canadian Singles of All Time.
Not bad for a bunch of kids from Burlington, Ontario.
Gord Deppe and Sandy Horne, along with drummer Chris McNeill and keyboardist Scott Macdonald, continue to perform to this day, with no end in sight for the retro 80s phenomenon. Recently they celebrated their 40th anniversary with the repeatable compilation album and Echoes, a collection of re-recordings of their songs by other 80s artists from around the globe. โTruly one of our proudest achievements ever,โ according Gord Deppe.
The retro 80s movement shows no sign of slowing down. Not one bit. And as far as Sandy, Gord and a lot of fans are concerned, that is a very good thing indeed.
