She has been singing for over 10 years and has performed extensively across Canada and the U.S. at festivals\, concerts\, and community events\, recently presenting her concert\, Songs in Bloom. \nIn 2026\, Anita received First Place in the Performing Arts BC Provincial Excellence Competition in both Classical Voice and Vocal Variety\, as well as two First Place Medallions at the Vancouver Kiwanis Music Festival in Senior Classical Voice and Classical Voice Provincial Excellence. Alongside performing\, she teaches voice and piano to students of all ages and is passionate about using music to connect cultures and communities. Through her expressive voice and engaging stage presence\, Anita strives to create meaningful musical experiences for diverse audiences. \n‍ \nNdabaga Code\nTIME: 7:25 PM – 7:50 PM \nLOCATION: PoMoArts (2425 St Johns St\, Port Moody) \nARTISTS: ELITE SQUAD (Isaac Gasangwa\, Chrisabelle Ravadilla\, Rashid Dadye\, Valeria Flores Medina) \nNdabaga Code is a kinetic research initiative that blends traditional Rwandan dance\, such as Ikinimba and Umushayayo\, with contemporary street dance. We are exploring how ancestral storytelling and rhythmic footwork translate into modern choreographic cyphers. By taking this movement out of the theatre\, this activation shares the raw\, collective energy of the cypher directly with the audience. It’s about bridging past and present to create a genuine space for cultural exchange and community connection. \n“I’m excited to bring Ndabaga Code to Art Out Side because it strips away the walls of a traditional theatre. My work as an Artistic Director is all about community connection. DESCRIPTION:“The Nest” – A Look at the Secret Life of Birds\nTIME: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM \nLOCATION: Pioneer Memorial Park (275 Knowle St\, Port Moody) \nARTIST: Melissa Burgher \nThe Nest reveals the hidden importance of protected park areas by highlighting ground-nesting birds such as ducks\, geese\, killdeer\, and plovers. Artist Melissa Burgher will lead participants in creating a 4-5′ foot woven bird’s nest using sustainably harvested native/invasive plants\, including yellow flag iris\, ivy\, and willow. Through demonstrations of ethical harvesting and traditional/non-traditional weaving techniques\, participants will contribute to a collaborative land-based artwork while learning about ecological stewardship. The project transforms public space into an interactive outdoor classroom\, fostering environmental awareness\, creativity\, and community connection through collective making. \n“I’m excited to bring people together at the Art Outside Festival to create something that celebrates both art and ecology. By weaving a giant bird’s nest from natural\, sustainably harvested materials\, we can spark curiosity about the hidden lives of ground-nesting birds and inspire a deeper appreciation for the landscapes we share. An A-frame tent will be warped with thread and fabric yarn will be provided for participating in the creation of the tapestry covering the tent frame. This installation affords a structure to experience as well as to make and encourages festival goers of all ages\, abilities\, and interests to participate in the exhibit. The Threads Between Us is a reminder of the deeply entwined connection we all share and our effect on our collective creations\, whether we simply exist\, observe\, and/or create in the space. Participation\, experimentation\, and questions are encouraged! \n“I am so excited to see this project come to life! What story will unfold? What follows is part ritual\, part encounter\, part dream. Not everything needs to be understood to be felt. Before you leave\, you are invited to write a few words and slip them back into the suitcase… adding your own trace to the tide. \n“Whispering my language on my favorite trail is something I’ve been dreaming of for a long time. These busy boffins from outer space are on a reconnaissance mission to test connective possibilities and collect data using a nine-meter piece of strong diaphanous fabric. Through non-verbal communication and cooperative play\, these curious and silly scouts share their research in a wandering performance that all ages can enjoy. A few miniature models of the Proxemic Axon (each measuring one meter in length) will be available for young earthlings who want to improvise with the scientists. \n“We love any opportunity to bring our unique sense of wonder and play out in full display\, and we’re eager to come out and explore the space alongside the community in Port Moody during Art Out Side. Audiences approach a standing microphone and speak\, sing\, or make sound — their voice’s pitch and rhythm trigger real-time shifts in a projected animation\, changing how the story ends. The visuals themselves come from the community: local participants’ hand-drawn artwork\, created in workshops leading up to the festival\, is digitized and animated for the mapping. Part projection art\, part public ritual\, Whispering Walls turns Art Out Side’s audience into co-authors of the work. \n“Art Out Side asks artists to rethink where and how art happens — and that’s exactly the space I love working in. Whispering Walls only exists because people show up and speak into it; the city becomes a canvas\, and the audience becomes the author. Seduction\, danger\, fantasy\, and fleeting intimacy unfold through voices\, foliage\, light\, and bodies half-heard and half-remembered. It is about how scavengers live alongside humans. The vulture purifies the land by eating decaying flesh\, and disease. Without them\, we would be drowning in corpses. The piece is a creative way to bring attention to the several wars happening around the globe at this time. It is beautiful and poetic and very Canadian in that it celebrates the healing power of nature in the face of human chaos. Pray to the Turkey vulture. DESCRIPTION:The Threads Between Us – A public weaving project\nTIME: 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM \nLOCATION: PoMoArts (2425 St Johns St\, Port Moody) \nARTIST: Elizabeth Raposo \nThis project is an experiential space that encourages festival goers of all ages to participate in the collective creation of a tangible representation of our effect on the community around us. An A-frame tent will be warped with thread and fabric yarn will be provided for participating in the creation of the tapestry covering the tent frame. This installation affords a structure to experience as well as to make and encourages festival goers of all ages\, abilities\, and interests to participate in the exhibit. The Threads Between Us is a reminder of the deeply entwined connection we all share and our effect on our collective creations\, whether we simply exist\, observe\, and/or create in the space. I am looking forward to working with participants at Art Out Side and hope to inspire others to experiment with making things that speak to them!” \n‍ \nWhat Glows Within\nTIME: 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM \nLOCATION: PoMoArts (2425 St Johns St\, Port Moody) \nARTIST: Joy Baker \nWhat Glows Within is an immersive UV painting experience where visitors collaborate to reveal a glowing portrait of Port Moody. Inside a blacklight-lit space\, participants use vibrant UV-reactive paints to colour sections of a large fluorescent line drawing inspired by the city’s waterfront\, mountains\, forests\, wildlife\, and community. As each person adds their own brushstrokes\, the artwork gradually transforms into a luminous celebration of the place we share – revealing that the true light of Port Moody comes from the people who bring it to life. \n“I’m excited to be part of Art Out Side because I love creating experiences that bring people together through creativity. What Glows Within is about more than painting – it’s about revealing the beauty\, energy and spirit of Port Moody through hundreds of individual contributions. I hope people leave feeling inspired\, connected and proud to have helped create something that quite literally glows from within.” \n‍ \nWhispering Walls: A Voice-Activated Projection Mapping Experience\nTIME: 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM \nLOCATION: PoMoArts (2425 St Johns St\, Port Moody) \nARTIST: Tarcila Neves \nWhispering Walls transforms a Port Moody structure into a living\, responsive canvas. Audiences approach a standing microphone and speak\, sing\, or make sound — their voice’s pitch and rhythm trigger real-time shifts in a projected animation\, changing how the story ends. The visuals themselves come from the community: local participants’ hand-drawn artwork\, created in workshops leading up to the festival\, is digitized and animated for the mapping. Part projection art\, part public ritual\, Whispering Walls turns Art Out Side’s audience into co-authors of the work. \n“Art Out Side asks artists to rethink where and how art happens — and that’s exactly the space I love working in. Whispering Walls only exists because people show up and speak into it; the city becomes a canvas\, and the audience becomes the author. Inspired by wild animal calls\, imaginary jungles\, and the invisible line of radio signals\, the duo creates a live performance where modern analog synths\, psych guitar\, and electronic loops collaborate with traditional flutes\, Korean junggu drum\, making a global musical sound. Created by Alfredo Mangherini (Italy) and Nicholas Lagasse (Canada)\, the project invites audiences to space out with shifting sonic landscapes and experience the street as a living\, unexpected jungle ecosystem. \n“We are excited to be part of Art Out Side 2026 as our music connects naturally with art and creative environments. Phantom Jungle makes colorful musical experiences through original music\, improvisation and expressive rhythms.
