SUMMARY:Open Air Performance Series: Total Gadjo
DESCRIPTION:TOTAL GADJO\nOpen Air Performance Series\n\n\n\n\n\nFrom July 7th – August 29th\, 2025 join us for a free\, 1-hour performance every Monday to Friday at 6PM as part of our Open Air Performance Series. Formed by Slavic immigrant/singer/songwriter and guitarist Petcho Joch\, the Slavic Folk Punks Total Gadjos do for Slavic Folk what Gogol Bordello does for Romani music and The Pogues for Irish/Celtic Folk. They rev it up to punk speed and power while maintaining the melodic sense of the original sound and use the accordion\, sax\, trumpet\, clarinet\, and violin for Slavic Folk authenticity. \nTotal Gadjos was the pre-show artist for the sold-out Goran Bregovic Wedding and Funeral Orchestra show at Jack Singer Hall in Calgary. They opened for Lemon Bucket Orkestra at Gateway (Calgary) and for Art Bergmann at Fences Down Festival (Calgary). The Gadjos played another sold-out show with Plaid Tongued Devils at Ironwood Stage & Grill (Calgary) and with Wax Mannequin in Salmon Arm\, BC.

SUMMARY:Art Out Side: Sonic Bloom
DESCRIPTION:Sonic Bloom is a lively interactive installation that transforms movement and sound into the growth of digital flora based on native plants local to B.C. It offers an opportunity to reflect on our connection to the nature in our own backyard. The piece uses a body tracking camera to allow participants to interact directly with a large-scale projection\, ideally outdoors. Everyone will grow a unique flowering plant native to B.C.\, combining into a garden that evolves with their every movement. The music of Ruby Singh’s Polyphonic Garden will fill the air and activate the flowers as they pulse with each beat. Singh created this Western Canadian Music Award winning album over the course of two years of travels to six biomes throughout so-called “British Columbia.” Using biosonification\, Singh raises songs from indigenous flora and fungi\, transforming bio-electricity into midi data to inform pitch and rhythm. The melodies are then mixed with field recordings and unique instrumentation. What emerges are complexly layered sonic ecologies of connection to the natural world\, where Singh imagines how we might move towards right relations with these generous lands\, waters and skies. The installation will culminate with alive performance by Ruby Singh. Grounded in local ecologies\, Sonic Bloom is a multisensory immersive and interactive experience that connects participants to nature through their bodies. Their active participation in the piece reminding them of their role in shifting our relationship with the more than human world all around us. \n‍ \nAbout the Artist: \nBiome is the collective multisensory\, immersive work of Ruby Singh and John Desnoyers-Stewart grounded in rewilding human relationships with the more-than-human. Ruby Singh is a multi award winning performer\, composer and producer residing on the unceded territories of  the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm\, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh\, and səl̓ílwətaʔɬ/Tsleil-Waututh Nations (Vancouver BC.). His creativity crosses the boundaries of music\, poetry\, photography and film engaging with mythos\, memory\, justice and fantasy.  In 2022 Singh received the Lieutenant Governor’s Jubilee Award for excellence in Art and Music. In 2023 he received his inaugural Juno nomination and he won both the WCMA award for best Global Music Artist of the Year and BC Touring Council’s  Artist of the Year. Singh believes in art’s ability to reimagine futures\, to repurpose aesthetic freedoms toward civil and environmental justice. John Desnoyers-Stewart is an interdisciplinary artist/researcher and postdoctoral fellow at the University of British Columbia’s (UBC) Critical Future Studio/Lab. He integrates artistic practice with engineering knowledge to create innovative artworks to connect people and evoke new perspectives on our shared physical reality. He has exhibited his multi-user mixed reality installations\, Star-Stuff\, Eve 3.0\, and more in over80 exhibitions at art galleries and festivals around the world. Through his art and research\, he explores positive social applications of mixed reality\, investigating its potential to connect us more deeply to ourselves\, each other\, and our surrounding physical reality. \nFollow Ruby Singh online: \nWebsite: www.rubysingh.ca \nInstagram: @rubysingh_

SUMMARY:Open Air Performance Series: What We Embrace
DESCRIPTION:WHAT WE EMBRACE\nOpen Air Performance Series\n\n\n\n\n\nFrom July 7th – August 29th\, 2025 join us for a free\, 1-hour performance every Monday to Friday at 6PM as part of our Open Air Performance Series. One day Lindalouise with shaky hands\, took a journal of songs that she’d been secretly writing to Dougie\, a writer she deeply admired. \nIt was just over two years ago they decided to embrace a new journey. What We Embrace tells stories\, some triumphant\, some less so. Their sound is teetering between Indie Folk and New Americana. Voices blending\, lifting and weaving in unexpected places. Each song\, a journey through heartbreak\, love\, uncertainty and redemption. \nThey make music for the dreamers\, the broken and the yet-to-be-found\, drawing influences from The Civil Wars\, Fleetwood Mac and Brandi Carlile\, amongst others. \n“We often find ourselves in moments quite unexpected and we find then\, we are all what we embrace”

That’s the motto of Blue Chu\, aka Lilbluebeluga—a musical mischief-maker with a big heart and a love for laughter. Overcoming stage fright\, Blue kicked off their music and performance journey in 2018 and never looked back. \nThey studied music at Douglas College\, clowning at One North Clown Creation\, and improv at Tightrope Improv Theatre\, blending their passions into a unique style that mixes pop\, indie rock\, R&B\, folky feels\, and a dash of delightful silliness. \nIn 2022\, Blue released their debut album The Whale Tale Between Two Fins under Lilbluebeluga\, a whimsical\, heartfelt collection of songs. They’ve also played with local bands like Leo D. E. Johnson and Houseguest\, and a founding member of Hot Dyke Party. \nBlue has created the improved musical format Queenside Stories and co created the 2023 Vancouver Fringe show Peaceful Blips\, bringing spontaneous songs and joy to the stage. As their clown persona Mei-Xing\, they were named Ambassador of Wonder by Place des Arts and performed at Edmonton’s 2024 Play the Fool Festival. \nWhether singing\, clowning\, or making up songs on the spot\, Blue Chu is here to remind you of two things: You are loved. You are beautiful.

SUMMARY:Art Out Side: Radiant Contours: LED Installation
DESCRIPTION:Radiant Contours isa 9 foot tall outdoor light sculpture that transforms real-world topography into an illuminated vertical landscape. Its surface is made of a 10 by 10 grid of 3D printed terrain tiles\, representing the contours of Southwest British Columbia .As light pulses through the layered forms\, the landscape appears to breathe\, animated by shifting patterns that echo wind and water. The sculpture stands on a 3 by 7 foot cedar platform that houses its 110 volt to 12 volt DC power system. Weather-resistant and self-contained\, it installs quickly and requires only a standard outlet. Radiant Contours is designed to be touched. Viewers are encouraged to explore the terrain with their hands\, engaging with the work through texture\, light\, and movement. At night\, it becomes a quiet beacon\, offering a moment of calm and connection in public space. Ideal for parks\, walkways\, or transitional urban sites\, the piece transforms overlooked areas into immersive experiences. The work is part of an ongoing exploration into spatial storytelling\, using digital fabrication and geographic data to create sensory connections to place. Radiant Contours turns physical data into atmosphere\, and public space into poetry. \nAbout the Artist: \nNeil creates objects and spaces tailored to unique people and places. He work as an industrial designer\, fabricator\, concept artist\, and educator. Inspired by the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest\, his practice blends technology and art to shape immersive\, spatial experiences. Neil graduated from Emily Carr University in 2016 with a degree in Industrial Design\, he draws influence from local landscapes and communities.  His work often uses topography and GIS to offer viewers a new perspective\, lifting them above ground level into new realms.

SUMMARY:Port Moody Film Society August Indoor/Outdoor Film Event: French Comedy!
DESCRIPTION:Indoor / Outdoor Summer Double Feature!\n\n\nFrench Comedy Night!\nSATURDAY August 9th\, 2025\n\nFirst film Indoors:\nThe Intouchables – August 9th\, 2025\, 7:00 PM (early start time!!)\n\nA rich quadriplegic\, living in a mansion in Paris\, requires a live-in caregiver. A young offender turns up for an interview\, but he is not really looking to get the job. However\, to his surprise\, he is hired. The two men then develop a close friendship. In the wrong hands this film could have been a sentimental mess. Luckily it’s not\, and instead of being a film about labels\, it’s about people and the healing power of camaraderie. “The Intouchables” is actually quite touchable. \nComedy / Drama\nRuntime 1 hour 52 minutes\nFrance\n2011\nRated 14A \nTrailer for The Intouchables \n\nSecond film Outdoors (weather permitting):\nAmélie – August 9th\, 2025\, 9:15 PM\n\nAmélie is a delicious pastry of a movie\, a lighthearted fantasy in which a winsome heroine overcomes a sad childhood and grows up to bring cheer to the needful and joy to herself. You see it\, and later when you think about it\, you smile. It is so hard to make a nimble\, charming comedy. So hard to get the tone right and find actors who embody charm instead of impersonating it. It takes so much confidence to dance on the tightrope of whimsy. “Amelie” takes those chances\, and gets away with them. \nComedy / Romance\nRuntime 2 hour 2 minutes\nFrance\n2001\nRated 14A \nTrailer for Amélie
