SUMMARY:Art Focus: November Art Demo
DESCRIPTION:Art Focus is pleased to present a demo by Michael King on Wed\, November 26\, from 7:00-9:00pm\, at The Outlet at Leigh Square in Port Coquitlam. All demos are free and open to the public! \n” Join me for an informal evening where I demonstrate how to break down a landscape into manageable forms and how I use design to create a painting that takes the viewer into and through the landscape.”\nMichael King\, a Canadian painter\, is passionate about plein air (outdoor) painting\, concentrating on capturing the essence of the landscape. His direct experiences in the outdoors serve as a driving force behind the creation of his more extensive studio works. \nAlways looking for the nuance of light\, shape and colour\, he combines representational elements with an abstracted style. His paintings strike a balance between realistic observation and abstract interpretation\, resulting in a unique and captivating aesthetic.

SUMMARY:Opening Day: ᓴᓂ ᐳᑐᒍ  Sharni Pootoogook: Creatures\, Shadows\, and Dreams
DESCRIPTION:Image: Sharni Pootoogook (1922-2003)\, Untitled\, 2001\, ink on paper. Collection of the Kelowna Art Gallery. Purchased with funds from the Permanent Collection Reserve\, 2022. Photo: Yuri Akuney\, Digital Perfections \n— \nᓴᓂ ᐳᑐᒍ  Sharni Pootoogook: Creatures\, Shadows\, and Dreams \nNovember 29\, 2025 – February 22\, 2026\nArt Gallery at Evergreen | 1205 Pinetree Way\, Coquitlam\, BC\nOpen Wednesdays 12 – 5pm\, Thursdays + Fridays 12 – 6pm\, Saturdays + Sundays 12 – 5pm\nFree admission \n— \nThe life and work of Sharni Pootoogook (1922–2003)\, though still largely unexplored\, draws clear and fundamental connections between first-generation artists in Kinngait and the current trends in Inuit graphic art. Her bold designs helped to shape and inform the course of Inuit printmaking during a period of great turmoil that threatened the Inuit’s land\, culture and traditional language. Drawn from the Kelowna Art Gallery’s Permanent Collection and supplemented by works lent from Simon Fraser University\, this exhibition features works on paper that demonstrate Pootoogook’s trademark style of heavy line work and well-balanced design. Blurring the boundaries between human and animal\, the spiritual and the visceral\, Pootoogook’s work creates space for wonder and uncertainty. \nOrganized and circulated by the Kelowna Art Gallery. Curated by Christine May. \n— \nJoin us on the opening day of Sharni Pootoogook: Creatures\, Shadows\, and Dreams from 3-5pm with a warm cup of hot chocolate to-go to kick off your night at Lights at Lafarge! \nThe AGE will be open during regular hours and hot chocolate will be available on Saturday November 29th from 3-5pm\, also on Fridays December 5\, 12\, and 19 from 5-6 pm. \nPay parking available on-site\, easy access from Millennium Line\, Lafarge Lake-Douglas College Skytrain Station. SUMMARY:Strange Advance & Spoons
DESCRIPTION:Strange Advance\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBorn from a love of David Bowie\, Strange Advance began releasing music in 1982. Signed to Capitol Records USA\, they released three Gold Records\, earned Juno nominations for both Most Promising Group and Best Group\, and gained fans like Annie Lennox and Neil Peart. \nAfter Bowie’s passing\, the band made a decision – if they were ever going to play live again\, it was now or never. They released a new album\, Strange Advance 4\, and reintroduced themselves to Canada\, fulfilling long-held dreams of devoted fans and captivating a new generation of ’80s music lovers. \nJoined by visual artist Tim Hill (Skinny Puppy)\, Strange Advance delivers the soundtrack to that magical era that was the 1980s. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpoons\nFormed in 1980\, an intrepid young band from Burlington\, Ontario would soon make “Spoons” a different kind of household word. They would help define the sound of pop and New Wave in the 80’s with hits like Nova Heart\, Romantic Traffic\, Old Emotions\, and Tell No Lies. \nTheir album Arias & Symphonies would go on to be named one of the “20 Most Influential Albums of the 80s” by The Chart Magazine and their song “Nova Heart” would be included in Bob Mersereau’s book The Top 100 Canadian Singles of All Time. \nNot bad for a bunch of kids from Burlington\, Ontario. \nGord Deppe and Sandy Horne\, along with drummer Chris McNeill and keyboardist Scott Macdonald\, continue to perform to this day\, with no end in sight for the retro 80s phenomenon. Recently they celebrated their 40th anniversary with the repeatable compilation album and Echoes\, a collection of re-recordings of their songs by other 80s artists from around the globe. “Truly one of our proudest achievements ever\,” according Gord Deppe. \nThe retro 80s movement shows no sign of slowing down. Not one bit. And as far as Sandy\, Gord and a lot of fans are concerned\, that is a very good thing indeed. \nTickets\nTickets are on sale now at Ticketmaster.ca. \nThis is an all ages event.
