ArtsConnect’s ArtsCalendar is a work in progress. Presently, we are working with a small group of arts organizations from across the Tri-Cities to develop the ArtsCalendar before we open up submissions from all arts organizations and we are not accepting direct submissions at this time. If your organization is interested in joining the ArtsCalendar in the future, please email your name, address, and a brief description of your organization to: [email protected]
This resource has been made possible through the financial support of ArtsConnect’s members. If you would like to support the further development, please consider becoming a member here: Membership

Port Moody Film Society Presents: My American Cousin

Port Moody Film Society Presents:
My American Cousin
For our FREE film this June, following our AGM, we’ve chosen the classic Canadian coming of age tale, My American Cousin, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. Sandy is a bored 12-year-old preparing for another long and uneventful summer in rural 1950s British Columbia when her older cousin, Butch, arrives unexpectedly from California in a shiny red convertible. Of course, the impressionable Sandy is immediately dazzled by Butch’s cool, rock’n’roll swagger; his appearance seems to promise all the excitement that Sandy has been longing for. Based on writer-director Sandy Wilson’s own memories, My American Cousin won multiple Genie Awards including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Actor and Best Actress. Capturing the restlessness of youth with a fresh and funny perspective, Wilson’s genuinely charming period piece is forever reaching for lost innocence as it playfully contrasts Canadian and American attitudes.
